X-Men: Foundations
part 1: Gifted Students Summary
Charles Xavier, with the help of Hank McCoy and Warren Worthington III, has recruited his first class of gifted students, of mutants. Scott Summers, Ororo Munroe, and Jean Grey have spent two years studying at the Xavier Institute for Gifted Students. There, they have received the finest of conventional educations while they have begun learning to control their mutant abilities under the watchful eye of Professor Charles Xavier.
Xavier’s students have just faced their first challenge in the use of their mutant powers for the greater good. They fought side-by-side along with their mentors to win a narrow victory over a mutant whose Homo superior-powered crime wave threatened humans and mutants alike. In the wake of that fight, hard lessons have been learned, and even harder decisions have yet to be made. Professor Xavier has taught his students the importance of using their mutant abilities wisely and responsibly, for the benefit of all society. For this noble purpose, six strong individuals must lay the foundations of what will become the X-Men. If they are to serve a greater good and to pursue Charles Xavier’s dream of creating a world where humans and mutants can safely and peacefully coexist, it will take much time, planning, and perseverance. All of the pieces are in place. The hard work has begun. Xavier’s students must now move beyond simply controlling their mutant abilities and instead learn to master those unique strengths, and themselves. They must overcome their faults, face their fears, and find their common strength as a team. They must put the past behind them and step out of the shadows... even as forces of darkness lie in wait from the shadows, ready to stop them. They must build a future. A school. A team. A legend. They must become X-Men. Read more!
